You'll find all you need in
step by step instructions in the various methods of Nail Art on this
page.
Nail art and decoration of the nails has
been done for centuries, as the Egyptians used berries and different
pigments to add colour and effects to the nails of the hands and
feet.
Nail Art can be a subtle and subdued or
as wild and tacky as you or your client may want. There
are no age barriers to nail art, as it is loved in its' many ways
by women of all ages. A subtle hand painted French
design to a sparkly and glittery Stained Glass design,
there is no end to the styles
Here is description of how to do some of the most popular types
of nail art.
Nail Nuggeting
Available in gold, silver and copper. Use 2 orangewood sticks to
tear nuggeting into smaller irregular shaped pieces. For a different look you
could also cut tiny slivers/lines of the Nuggeting with a small pair
of scissors. Apply a
thick topcoat to the nail, touch one end of orangewood stick into
the wet surface, (this will make it slightly tacky so it can pick-up
the pieces of nugget paper).
Pick up pieces of nugget and apply into the wet topcoat, in
any pattern you desire. (Sweep, half-nail, corner-slant etc.) If topcoat dries, apply
another coat. As
another option you can also add Rhinestones into the nuggeting
design. After you’ve
completed putting everything on the nail, apply 1 -2 coats of thick
topcoat.
Rhinestones (lines, circles, flowers w/leaves or singles)
Available
in packages of 40, 100, and 225 in a variety of colors and a
mixed pro pack. Also in
Acrylic in many shapes.
Mentally plan out your design, before applying your topcoat,
for quicker application.
Apply a thick layer of topcoat then touch an end of an
orangewood stick to the wet surface. Pick-up the Rhinestones with
the tacky end of the stick and place on nail in desired pattern.
(it's that easy !!)
When you've finished the design, apply 1-2 coats of top coat
to seal the design.
Striping Tape
Available, year-round in gold or silver. Striping tape is one of the
original nail art tools.
A self adhesive backed thin metallic line, gives a look that
can’t be duplicated with a metallic paint. The rule of using the tape
is that if your fingers or something else has touched the adhesive
back, it won’t stick down on the nail for long. (it will peel
up) Waste a bit of the
tape to achieve a good result.
Figure out your design then lay down the tape, letting a
little extend off of the nail on the sides. After your design is set,
then go back and trim the excess tape to lay just inside the edges
of the nail—too close and you’ll get peeling. Apply a touch of Topcoat
onto the end of the tapes right away. Complete your design with
glitter or stones, then re-apply another coat of Topcoat on the
ends, let set-up for a minute.
Apply 1-2 coats of top coat to seal the
design.
Foilizing Technique
-
(Using different colors of foil, Foil Adhesive and a small
brush)
Let your client choose which colors of foil she would like to
have. Use the brush
from the bottle, to apply Adhesive, for large designs. If you want to do more
detail, use the small detail brush. Apply Adhesive into any
design or to do a mosaic nail just apply small patches of adhesive
in a few places on the nail.
When Adhesive has dried clear, apply the dull side of the
foil to the nail, firmly press down. When the piece is lifted it
will leave behind the shiny colored foil. If doing the mosaic design
repeat the steps again with different colors of foil until the
desired look is achieved.
If doing a single application and not all foil is
transferred, apply more Adhesive to the area and re-apply foil. When design is finished
apply a thick coat of Sealer to finish design. If you use a very quick
setting top coat, it will crinkle the foil, giving a different
look. Use various top
coats to see different looks you can
achieve.
Decals
(water
set)
We presently do not
stock water-set decals.
Possibly in the future we may bring in some styles, but at
this time we feel the New That’s It ? Style
of decal is easier and less messy to use. Water decals have an
incredible variety, for French Sets or for other special occasions
or just for fun. But
watch the size for small nails, you may have to customize the size
of the decal. You’ll need small scissors,
Kleenex, small dish or cup of water, and tweezers. Cut out decal to fit
design. Place a drop of
water on table and lay decal, blue paper down, into the water for
10-15 seconds (when paper starts to curl a bit). Pick up with tweezers and
lay on top of nail.
With one finger gently touching top of decal, slide out from
underneath the backing paper.
Move decal carefully into place, on the cushion of water
underneath then gently place Kleenex on top and push water and air
out from beneath the decal.
After it has adhered to the nail, 1 - 2 seconds, apply an
extremely thick or not very fast drying topcoat. I usually will allow a drop
of topcoat to cover the decal and edges only first, then after about
a half a minute, apply an entire layer to the nail, being careful
not to brush at or disturb the decal. If you use a very quick
drying, very thin topcoat you may dissolve or break-up the decal,
because of the bristles of the brush and the quickly evaporating
solvents in the polish.
It’s better to use topcoat that is very thick, slow drying
then apply a quick dry over top to speed up drying
time.
3D Rubber Decals (self-adhesive)
3D Decals are one of the simplest nail
art tools to use. The variety of designs from Frenchy Flowers
to Piggies & Ladybugs, makes this a very attractive style
of nail art to offer. 3D Decals can be used on natural
nails, pedicures & nail extensions; either imbedded into the gel
or acrylic or used as the last step before topcoat - Your
Choice! When using as a simple nail art, do your usual finish,
base, 2 coats of polish or a French finish... then carefully remove
the chosen decal from the clear backing film. I find it best
to work with tweezers to peel it up from the clear film - this
prevents the decal from folding over or tearing. Lay it in
place on the nail - if your nail lacquer is still tacky or wet,
use caution to ensure you don't cause the lacquer to get waves or
dings in the areas not covered by the
decal. After you've applied 1, 2 or
more decals ensure they are flat - tap or roll lightly over the top
with a metal tool or orangewood stick. Then add Click Gems or
Jewels to enhance the design - maybe a touch of Glitter ?
Finish by applying a generous 1-2 coats of Topcoat... use quite a
thick or heavy style to coat and seal the decal in. If
burying as an imbedded object, you can either place the decal deep
into the product to ensure a smooth finish or if a slightly bumpy
nail is o.k., then apply the decals after you have finish
filed/buffed - then use a UV cured sealant to
finish.
Nail Bullion
–
(Available in gold, silver & clear)
When
designing flowers, you can use the Bullion as the centers. After you have completed the
flower and the paint has dried – dab a small amount of Nail Art
Sealer into the center.
Using either a brush or marbelizing tool – touch the Sealer
and then dip into the container of bullion, picking up 3-6 tiny
beads. Place them in
the center of the flower and roll your tool off of the area – to
release the beads. Coax
the beads into place and leave to dry completely before top coating.
Bullion can also be used to create design elements or specifically
“Christmas tree-shapes” on the nails. Apply a coat of Nail Art
Sealer to the entire nail.
After touching your tool to the area, dip into your Bullion
and pick up a fairly large amount of the beads. Apply them to the desired
area or into the shape of a specific design. Before the beads have time
to completely set into place pick up Nail Stones and push into/among
the beads. At the same
time you can coax the beads to lay into a single layer – as to not
add too much thickness to the nail. If the nail dries before you
get all the stones or Bullion Beads into place, just dab a touch
more Nail Sealer into the area you need for bullion or where you
would like to place a stone.
Let this design dry completely before Sealing. (3-5
minutes)
Acrylic “Shapes” Gems
Available in wheels of 360. Acrylic gems are applied the
same way as regular rhinestones, but you can also make great design
shapes out of combining the different shaped gems into animals,
flowers and other combinations.
That’s
It ?

Decals
- That’s
It ? Decals are made up of two types; full sheet, such as lace or
animal print designs and single designs, such as the daisies.
Apply
two thin coats of polish to your prepared nail and let dry to the
touch (3-10 minutes) **do not use quick dry sprays before
applying art - as design will not stick to an oily surface. Using
an orangewood stick, rub over the portion of the design you want to
transfer to the nail, avoiding the cuticle. Keep the backing
paper on the back of the sheet to protect the designs you aren't
using. NOTE: when using some of the animal prints and lace
designs, you will need to cut out the portion of the design you
want, prior to adhering to nail. Remove design sheet and make
sure all edges are well adhered. Gently press down any raised
edges. If any part of the design extends past the free
edge, simply use a fine file or buffer at a 45 degree angle to
remove the excess. Apply 1-2 coats of That's It ? top
coat. Allow the first coat to dry a little before
applying second.
Stained
Glass

CLICK
Glitter Dust
Have
your client pick 3-4 different colors to be used in the design, the
more colors she chooses the more intricate the design and the
longer it will take to do, (more $$). You will need assorted
colors in the thick style glitters, (especially used for this type
of art), paint in any of these colors; black, gold, white, or
silver, and a small detail brush.
Mosaic
designs are quite simple to do, and can cover all or just an edge of
the nail. Start by
opening all your glitter containers, then choose your first
color and apply to two or three different areas on the nail. This is accomplished by
taking the Brush, dipping into the Sealer then into the Glitter Dust
– then perform a patting motion with the brush, you’ll notice the
sealer mixing with the Dust and creates an opaque or sheer effect –
whichever you are trying to achieve. For a
shimmer-translucent look use more Sealer and less Dust, for a true
Stained Glass look use a small amount of Sealer to a greater amount
of Dust. Try to make
the areas different sizes and shapes, always remember that you have
more colors to put on and leave the space you need for the rest of
the colors. Take your
next color and apply in the same method, by working from the blank
area up to the color before.
Be careful to wipe off the Brush between colors, on a table
towel, if necessary use a little polish remover to clean completely
before switching. After
applying all your colors, let dry completely, to a dull finish. (this may take up to 3-5
minutes) When dry take
out a small amount of paint onto wax paper and using your detail
brush outline the different colors of glitter, if using a sheer
paint you may have to apply it a little thicker or do two
coats. After the
paint is dry top with your topcoat and the shine will come back to
the glitter design.
